All right people, I’ve been hearing your criticisms. The comments flying left and right: Lagerfeld’s lost it, Coco must be rolling in her grave, what’s with the barn? And my favourite―The Chanel 2010 handbags collection is for grandma! Here’s what I think. You’re all missing the point!
Buried (not so deep) in all the macramé, quilt patterns, wicker, sewing bags, and rustic country setting are the (not so secret) treasures of the Chanel spring collection. Ok, we can do without the wooden clog heels, and for sure I can do without the rock and roll outfits with the belled, beaded, patchy black pants (the models just looked like they were dressed up like Lagerfeld himself).
But,replica watches, several important, refreshing, replica watches wholesale, and beautiful things were happening at this latest Chanel show that people seem to be missing (so listen up!).
5 Arguments for Youth, Spring, and Fun in Chanel Handbags 2010
1) Chanel finally stepped out of their comfortable, restrained, dour, black and white urban image a little. Lagerfeld, who’s always been incredibly reverent to the original Chanel aesthetic, is showing his quirk a little.
2) The models, (for the first time I can recall seeing at a major runway show), were smiling and (at least theatrically) having fun!
3) There was a rock and roll band playing (so much for grandma).
4) Gorgeous colour combinations like a superwoman cobalt blue and cherry red kept appearing―that to me scream youth and beauty (Snow White comes to mind).
5) Pretension was nowhere to be found. What better attitude for spring! With the smiling models, the playful designs, the near absence of leather or metallics, the pop band, the embrace of the country bumpkin, designer replica handbags, Chanel was reminding us all what this season is about.
I feel like the very elements that are making people call this a “grandma” collection are what make it interesting. Chanel is having fun; reminding us all to have fun; telling us that urban fashion doesn’t need to be so dour. It’s young and hip to embrace the old times…or something like that! Well…who’s with me?
